For years, the Temple Texas Independent School district dealt with complaints from their teachers regarding the deteriorating quality of their chalkboard surfaces. In many classrooms, the chalkboards could no longer be cleaned properly, and the tackbords had numerous holes in them. Not a very pleasant atmosphere for the faculty or students.

The Temple Independent School District was charged with renovating the existing chalkboards and tackboards that had deteriorated over many years, and were mostly rendered unusable. The District reviewed many options and investigated the value-added features for each. Options considered were removing and replacing the existing boards completely, which was the most expensive solution, applying skins to the existing boards to cover the deteriorated surfaces, or a retro-fit systems, proposed by Platinum Visual Systems. Platinum's solution was a pre-fabricated markerboard or tackboard, completely framed, which would be designed to go over the existing boards.

Working in conjunction with Austin Acoustical Materials, Inc. and their installer, K.L Specialties, out of Austin, Texas, Platinum Visual Systems provided samples for review by the School District. They also had the opportunity to review samples of the other options as well. Specific consideration was given evaluating the frame design, surface material, board core and backing, and the installation method. Also considered was that the existing boards would not have to be removed which impacted the overall installation costs and eliminated the need to dispose of the existing boards.

A final decision was made to utilize the Platinum Visual Systems, Retro-Fit System. The District considered the features and benefits of each, and the long-term value, low installation cost, and Lifetime Warranty for the writing surface.

After the initial installation was completed, the District was completely satisfied with the quality of the Retro-Fit Boards, the secure mounting performed during the installation and the Lifetime Warranty. They subsequently added additional Retro-Fit Boards to other classrooms that were not originally scheduled to have replacement boards installed. The District is planning for the future and will add additional Retro-Fit boards to other classrooms, as future funding permits.

K.L Specialties was very satisfied with the scheduling and coordination of the shipments, the packaging methods which eliminated shipping damage, the exceptional quality of the Retro-Fit Boards, and the ease of installation, which saved them labor hours. The teachers were thrilled when they returned from their summer break and found brand new markerboards throughout their classrooms. We no longer need to deal with the mess of chalk.
